Greetings to everyone upon the arrival of spring in March! Having returned from the UK, I realized that spring has arrived in LV. Spring and and fall are a constant in the UK - rain and wind are a daily occurrence. Not so in LV. And yet, the weather conditions can't be ignored and I must prepare for the running of birch sap. It's a lot earlier than most years, but I've already begun to hunt for my drilling tools. I suggest others do the same, so that when the sap starts to flow, you don't have to run around willy-nilly looking for your tools.
I spent two wonderful weeks in the UK where I rejuvenated my energy for the tasks ahead. I "dotted my i's" and this unique opportunity allowed me to discover the wonderful inner workings of the operation. If you every have a chance to do something similar in your field - by all means, take the opportunity. Heartfelt thanks goes to the Polish-Irish Liam Idzikowski and the owner of the winery Justin Langham. I enjoyed English tea and English food in quintessential English calm:)
I know what I will be making this year, and how, and I will definitely inform you of the efforts. Wonderful results are bound to happen. This week I am also sending my first product samples to Switzerland and Taiwan - hopefully this will result in future cooperation. But for those of you who want to engage in this activity, considering proper care of the tree, get yourself a good tree drilling kit. Maple sap is already running, but birch sap may only start in mid-March, if the weather remains the same.
